Design and Construction

The Smart Plant Watering Alarm combines a capacitive moisture sensor, ambient light sensing, temperature monitoring, alarm circuit, and low-power control system in a compact device. Its capacitive sensing approach reduces the problems associated with exposed metal electrodes, making it suitable for longer-term soil monitoring.

Working Principle

The device measures soil moisture using capacitive sensing and compares the detected moisture level with the configured alarm threshold. When the soil begins to dry, it produces occasional short chirps. As moisture continues to decrease, the chirping frequency increases to indicate that watering is becoming more urgent.

The ambient light sensor allows the device to identify nighttime conditions and suppress the alarm, while temperature and light measurements provide additional environmental information. A low-power sleep mode helps reduce battery consumption when continuous operation is not required.
